What Is A Knowledge Managament Portal?

In the working industry, knowledge management is becoming more critical in the work ethics of many organizations and as of lately, all of the knowledge management information has been kept on individual computers in their email folders and specific folders on their computer. Knowledge management portals are new software programs that are being used in order to create a database for the knowledge management. A place where anyone in the business can go to in order to get knowledge or to share knowledge.

Most of the knowledge management portals have features such as work flow based content production, flexible search and index functions, need based and role based information distribution, knowledge production and administration targeted for the non-technical staff of the business, document conversion and distribution, and turn key solutions that can easily be customized by the staff with some training that is involved.

When a business hires a vendor to set up this type of software, the cost of it will depend on what will be required to set up the knowledge management portal and the degree of all the information that they may have to upload into the program. If the business is in the beginning stages of starting their knowledge management aspect, then the cost might not be that bad due to the fact that there might not be too much knowledge information to upload and organized, but if the company has had a knowledge management team that have been installing the knowledge in their computers within their email and folders, it could take some time to organize all of this information into the knowledge management portal.

The knowledge management portal is very similar to a company's very own intranet which is a network on the computer just like the internet is but it does not access the World Wide Web. It only has access to the company and all of its business practices, employees, policies, human resources, and all of their other departments. The knowledge management portal would actually be included in with this intranet and all of the staff could go onto the intranet and pull of the portal and get all of the knowledge that they would want that has been shared by other entities.

The knowledge management portal is something that is very important to a business and its growth. All of the information in this portal can be used by the company and its staff and it can easily be emailed to other entities in order to share this information. There are even some programs that have been developed that lets the company give access to the portal whether they are are that specific intranet or not. This is caused just by adding a link into an email or on the companys website.
